Students respond to their visit by writing creatively.
This is an English writing resource that engages students with their tree-climbing experience, enabling them to practise their crafting skills. Here, they are writing to entertain, and are using the tree-climb as their stimulus material. The task links to specific aspects of the tree-climbing environment, such as the oak tree, Appley Park, and the view across the beach to the mainland. The tasks are designed to appeal to students in key stages 2 and 3.
The questions could be discussed in class prior to the trip so students are bearing this in mind when on their tree-climb, focusing on the aesthetic aspects of their experience.
Completion of the tree-climb. Students could make notes in the evening of the climb to form the basis of their later writing. Alternatively, teachers could encourage an immediate response and students could complete the resource after the climb at the park, or later at their accommodation.
Completion of the English (writing - composition) resource/s linked to this document
Students will demonstrate their creative writing skills. They will demonstrate evidence of planning as well as showing that they can make language choices appropriate to an identified purpose and audience. Students will reflect on an experience and create a new text from this stimulus.
