Students make several observational sketches of a chosen animal which has been selected for its effective camouflage. They will also study its habitat and immediate background considering why it is so well camouflaged through colour and pattern. When back at school they will use their drawings and develop the ideas of colour and pattern to create a unique piece of artwork which demonstrates their understanding of the concept of camouflage.
This resource covers several stages to a finished creative piece of artwork, starting on site at Amazon World Zoo Park, and finishing in the classroom at school.
The task starts on site and is followed up in the classroom. As this resource covers one single task on site, it could be used with other activities as part of a carousel. There are other short resources for this venue which lend themselves to this usage.
Students use their sketches to complete a camouflage design.
Students will understand how an animal’s markings can provide excellent camouflage and to demonstrate their understanding by making preliminary sketches through close observation. They will also use creativity and experimentation in art and design techniques to demonstrate their understanding in a visual representation.
