Contextual Summary

The resource is a series of tasks that encourage students to identify and engage with the historical objects and items on display at the museum, and to analyse and interpret their usefulness, purpose and impact . Students have to interpret an original Isle of Wight network map and so are employing useful life skills that crossover to other subject areas, such as Maths and Geography.

This enables students to practise their interpretation skills whilst engaging with historical items and aspects of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The task is relevant to students in key stage 1 & 2.

Questions have been chosen because they link with core History skills as required at these key stages.

Key Skills Practised
  • Identifying artefacts and items on-site
  • Interpreting information
  • Synthesising information
  • Recording information
